EVERGREEN IMMERSION ACADEMY HEALTH/ILLNESS POLICY 2025

For the health and safety of your child and all the children in our facility, please do not bring your child in for care when sick. We can only care for children with mild cold like symptoms that are otherwise feeling and acting well.

Mild cold like symptoms are clear runny nose, slight cough, and with no fever. If you are not sure if your child should be brought to daycare, then please call, and check with us. In the case of most viruses, including COVID, people become contagious before the onset of obvious symptoms. 

Children who are not physically well will not thrive in their classrooms and most often become the source for community spread of contagious viruses. Following is a list of the most common symptoms: 

State law requires that we notify parents of children who have been exposed to certain contagious diseases. Parents are required to inform staff of any serious illness or communicable /contagious disease (with their child or within their family) within 24 hours to allow other families within the childcare center to be alerted. Some viruses such as COVID and Hand/Foot and Mouth require an instant response to keep the rest of the children safe, sometimes by calling a closure. We will require the following information for your child to come back to our Academy.

• Documented evaluation and treatment by the child’s Doctor
• Notification of the families of other children in our Academy and staff members
• Notification of local health authorities (e.g. Health Department)

Evergreen Immersion Academy requires all children to be up to date on their immunizations. We can provide a certificate form from Public Health which can be filled out by your child’s physician, or you may provide a form from your doctor’s office. A copy of these records will be kept in your child’s file. The only exemption we accept is in case of a true medical reason, such as your child suffering from an immune-compromising illness, a known and recorded allergic reaction to a specific vaccine, or if they are currently receiving medical treatment which may cause immune suppression. If there is a proven medical reason that your child must skip a vaccine, please speak to me in private.

To reduce the spread of illness and maintain the health of all children in our Academy, we may temporarily exclude your child from attending our Academy if:

• The illness results in a greater need for care the caregivers can provide without compromising the health, safety, and supervision of the children in care.
• His/her oral temperature of 99° F or greater, accompanied by behavior changes or other signs or symptoms of illness.
• A healthcare professional has diagnosed the child with a communicable disease, and the child does not have medical documentation to indicate that the child is no longer contagious.

Note: If the child is taking antibiotics for an illness, the child may return to the Academy as long the child is free from fever and without taking any antibiotics for 24 hours before returning to care at the facility, no longer contagious, and is otherwise feeling well enough to participate in our daily schedule.

Parents will be called to pick up a child who develops symptoms of an illness. Parents are expected to arrive for the child within 1 hour of being notified. This is not optional as the health and well-being of every child is paramount. If we cannot reach you within 30 minutes, we will begin calling your emergency contacts to arrange a pickup.

If your child becomes symptomatic while at the academy and they are subsequently sent home with a Sick Note, they may return only if ALL of the following requirements are met.

• There are no symptoms - without the use of      suppressants OR     symptoms have significantly improved.
• It has been a minimum of 24 hours.
• Negative Covid test has been submitted to administrators.
