To ensure that children feel comfortable with their environment and expectations, we provide them with a daily routine that is flexible, but structured. Children's interactions with each other are carefully observed, giving us the opportunity to help instill common values within each child.
The discipline and guidance centers around respect and responsibility. Through sensitivity and understanding, we strive to teach each child: manners, to be polite when speaking with teacher, parents, and each other, kindness, and be respectful of others and their belongings.
Each child is expected to be a respectful, responsible member of our group.
All “our rules ” center on these respect/responsibility/safety guidelines for all the children in our Academy. When a child displays inappropriate behavior towards others, he/she is encouraged to make peace with a sincere apology; all in a sustained effort to help teach children the basic understanding of right from wrong .
We also emphasize with equal importance that children learn to share, take turns, solve problems and work as a team so that they can learn to play harmoniously with each other; thus helping them to lay the foundations for all the social interactions that will come later in life.
We believe that the discipline of a child is achieved through patience, consistency, and positive reinforcement. One of the influential ways positive reinforcements is used is during activities such as circle-time, reading, among others.
The last, but not the least important way is the one that we childcare providers establish with examples. We understand that our actions and reactions speak much louder than our words. Each child in our care is frequently explained the rules of the Academy so that they know what is expected of them. Once a child is old enough to understand the rules and disobeys them, exhibiting inappropriate behavior (hitting, assault, etc.), hurting others or property, the following developmentally appropriate guidance techniques will be used.
The child will be encouraged when demonstrating acceptable behavior.
The child is redirected to another activity that he/she likes to be away from the group. This technique gives your child the opportunity to be more relaxed and de-stressed when re-integrating with the rest of the group, benefiting your child and the rest of the children.
when a child's behavior is continually upsetting or dangerous to others, a meeting will be scheduled with the child's parents or legal guardians, to find the reason that is causing this negative behavior and to help thus for the child to be in an environment full of happiness. If the problems cannot be resolved after all the above steps have unfortunately been followed, arrangements must be made for the child to go to another place where the child can be in an ideal environment.
Note: We welcome families as partners in teaching children about socially appropriate behaviors. As your child’s most influential teacher, we may occasionally ask you to work with us to help extinguish inappropriate behavior. We understand these issues are sensitive and many different parenting styles are reflected among our families. We also ask that, while on our grounds, you refrain from using any form of guidance that is not consistent with our center’s positive guidance approach or individual state childcare licensing regulations.
