To ensure that children feel comfortable with their environment and expectations, we provide them with a daily routine that is flexible, but structured. Children's interactions with each other are carefully observed, giving us the opportunity to help instill common values within each child.
The discipline and guidance centers around respect and responsibility. Through sensitivity and understanding, we strive to teach each child: manners, to be polite when speaking with teacher, parents, and each other, kindness, and be respectful of others and their belongings.
Each child is expected to be a respectful, responsible member of our group.
All “our rules ” center on these respect/responsibility/safety guidelines for all the children in our Academy. When a child displays inappropriate behavior towards others, he/she is encouraged to make peace with a sincere apology; all in a sustained effort to help teach children the basic understanding of right from wrong .
We also emphasize with equal importance that children learn to share, take turns, solve problems and work as a team so that they can learn to play harmoniously with each other; thus helping them to lay the foundations for all the social interactions that will come later in life.
We believe that the discipline of a child is achieved through patience, consistency, and positive reinforcement. One of the influential ways positive reinforcements is used is during activities such as circle-time, reading, among others.
The last, but not the least important way is the one that we childcare providers establish with examples. We understand that our actions and reactions speak much louder than our words. Each child in our care is frequently explained the rules of the Academy so that they know what is expected of them. Once a child is old enough to understand the rules and disobeys them, exhibiting inappropriate behavior (hitting, assault, etc.), hurting others or property, the following developmentally appropriate guidance techniques will be used.
